Sep 1, 1994 · Bulk sediment samples were obtained from the mud zone of Lake Okeecbobee and were equilibrated under controlled conditions at fixed Eh and pH levels. The pH levels evaluated were 5.5, 6.5, 7.5, and 8.5; the Eh levels studied were 500, 250, 0, and −250 mV. Redox reactions were very important in the regulation of P in Lake Okeechobee sediments.
Eh values decreased with flooding time in all three soils. The changes of Eh values were more negative in the tannery and alum shale contaminated soils and stabilized after 30 days of submergence. The Eh changes were not so large in the city sewage contaminated soil as in the other two soils. Soil pH increased with flooding time.
